One person died in a house fire in Casey on New Year’s Day.

The fire was reported early in the morning at 103 West 3rd Street. Casey Fire Chief Travis Corder tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the department arrived around 7:20am, and found the house billowing with smoke. After they got in a door of the home, Corder says they saw flames in the kitchen and the dining area, and there was lots of smoke in the attic.

He says firefighters pulled a deceased 63-year old male from the flames. There was no one else in the home at the time of the incident. Corder tells Raccoon Valley Radio that at this time, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined, but not suspicious, and is continuing to investigate the cause. Corder says the house is structurally standing, but heavily damaged, as there were multiple ventilation holes cut into it, and heavy fire, water and smoke damage inside. He thanks his firefighters with the Casey Fire Department, and Adair Fire & Rescue and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office for their help with the fire.
