Even with the recent winter storm, the Guthrie County Secondary Roads crews are well supplied for more that might be on the way.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern tells Raccoon Valley Radio that in the last storm, the road crews didn’t put a lot of ice melt materials or chemicals down, because after it stopped snowing, it was too cold for those materials to do any good. Once things warmed up and the wind stopped blowing as hard, they were able to get some on the roads though.

Sebern says that since they were unable to use the materials for part of the storm, the county still has a good stockpile.

“Our bins are still quite full. We have an ample supply. We have a couple hoop buildings that we store our salt and sand/salt mixtures in.”

Sebern adds that unless there is a series of back to back storms, the Secondary Roads Department should have enough of these materials to last through the winter. He adds that if they do end up needing more though, they can resupply.
