Another Greene County Relay for Life is in the books.
Teams started pouring in during registration time at 9:30am on Saturday and began walking around the indoor track at the Greene County Community Center.
The weather worked out well for a new twist to this year’s event with the survivor walk taking place outside, east of the rec center leading up to the start of the new Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk.
Participant Tori Tucker talks about her experience of getting hit by five different colors that represented five different cancers while also battling the windy weather conditions.
“I enjoyed getting hit by the colors, but the wind was kind of hard, going up and down the hills but yeah it was fun other than that. No, I didn’t get hit in the face, I let the boys get hit in the face.”
Jordan Challen who also ran the race says he thinks that the Color Out Cancer 5K event should continue in future years for the Relay for Life.
“Yeah, it was a lot of fun and a good turn out too so. They should keep doing it, it’s a good thing.”
Over 250 people were a part of the 5K race and the day ended with live entertainment inside the rec center along with another emotional moment of remembrance during the luminaria ceremony.
All proceeds from Saturday’s event went to the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
