Now that Christmas is behind us, Jefferson residents who picked up a live tree to decorate in their homes can easily get rid of it.
Public Works Department crews will be picking up discharged live Christmas trees at the curbside on your regular garbage day through January 11th. Trees must be at the curbside to be picked, preferably with the cut ends facing the street. Public Works Director Dave Morlan says all decorations and other items must be removed from the tree so it’s just the tree itself.
Additionally, any brown and simple paper cards, envelopes, bags and wrapping paper can be recycled and included in the curbside recycling program that the city provides. However, if any of those holiday items are glittery, shimmer or shiny, it can’t be recycled, but can be included in regular trash.
Anyone with questions about the tree recycling program through January 11th can contact City Hall at 515-386-3111.
