The Greene County School District is currently on winter break and for the new superintendent, the first half of the school year has gone well.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s been quite a journey since he took over the top spot in the district on July 1st.

“Just we’ve had a lot of really good, early success. Really focusing on our communication and building relationships with our community partners and then also within our staff as well.”

He admits that the new successes and changes have been baby steps at first with one of the major accomplishments has been the student-teacher priorities and aligning those with each and knowing what they are doing on a daily basis. Abbotts points out one of his main priorities to follow through in the second half of the school year is focused on the Career Academy.

“Really kind of getting those wheels in motion of, what is the Career Academy? What’s it about? Why do we exist? What’s the mission and vision there with our Career Academy? We do have a legislator visit that did get pushed back, had to get rescheduled on February 24th for some legislators to come up, (and) kind of go through and see the Career Academy.

Students return to school on January 4, 2023.
