Guthrie County and the counties around it are under a blizzard warning as issued by the National Weather Service.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright tells Raccoon Valley Radio that while snow hasn’t started yet for the area during the recently issued blizzard warning, the high winds and cold temperatures have more than made up for it. He says that temperatures are below zero, and when you factor in wind chill, it drops to about 40 below. On a good note though, Arganbright reports that as of shortly after 3pm Thursday, there hadn’t been any crashes or accidents that they have responded to.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern also mentions the high winds as an issue, telling Raccoon Valley Radio that in some places in the northern and western parts of the county, that snow has drifted back over the road almost as soon as the plows and motor graders clear them. He adds that the road crews are working hard to make sure Guthrie County residents are safe, but that they are having a little trouble keeping up with the snow that is blown onto the roads, especially east and west running roads.

Stuart Public Works Director Jim Henderson says that roads are under normal winter conditions and not covered, but that city crews are keeping an eye out in case more snow comes. He also mentions the extreme cold and wind chills, and advises city residents to stay in where it’s warm, and to heat their homes safely.
