It’s break time and Greene County High School boys’ head basketball coach Chris Nelson was asked to size up the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Rams are 2-3 in the league and 3-5 overall and have yet to play Perry and Saydel (Des Moines) while registering wins vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) and West Marshall (State Center). Roland-Story is undefeated on the season and is ranked third in Class 2A by the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Nevada’s only loss is to Roland-Story. The Rams have lost in conference play to R-S, Nevada, and PCM (Monroe).

“I think it’s been pretty competitive,” said the coach. “To me, Roland-Story is still the favorite, and I think they’ve clearly made that known, but I think the rest of the teams are all capable of playing well against each other. I think we can do some things in the second half and maybe get on a little run, and maybe even give Roland-Story a little run for their money.”

The Rams start the 2023 portion of the schedule with a non-conference girl/boy doubleheader in Jefferson vs. Webster City from the North Central Conference on Monday, Jan. 2.
