The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area saw lots of snow Wednesday and later today a blizzard warning will go into effect.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties from noon today through 6am Saturday. The main threats with the blizzard warning include wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour and wind chills as low as 40 degrees below zero. Another issue for motorists is reduced visibility, as possible white-out conditions may happen with widespread areas of blowing snow.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, all state roads in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties are completely covered with snow. Plow crews at the state, county and city levels are out clearing the roads at this time. Motorists are reminded to give the plows plenty of space and never “crowd the plow.” Additionally, tow services are not recommended at this time in Dallas County.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties until noon today. Stay tuned to the Raccoon Valley Radio network for road condition updates, as well as cancellation and postponement information, which can also be found on our website.
