The Perry Public Works Department wants citizens to know the city snow ordinance with snowfall in the area this week.

The ordinance states no vehicles should be parked on any public street, alley or City-owned off-street parking area when there is at least one-half inch of accumulated snow until the snow has been removed, the streets are fully open, and snow has stopped falling. Public Works Director Josh Wuekber tells Raccoon Valley Radio that if residents can follow this ordinance it will make their job easier.

“So if you could just park in a driveway or anything, it can increase our time so much. Those trucks are up and down the roads four times on one street. Once down and back to open up the centers and then another time back and forth to curb everything. So if the cars are gone, it makes our job tremendously more efficient.”

Property owners in the residential areas must remove snow or ice from their sidewalks within 48 hours of the first accumulation. Property owners in the business district will have 12 hours to remove sidewalks covered with winter precipitation.
