This past weekend was an opportunity for a few Greene County children to make their holiday season more enjoyable.
The Greene County Peace Officers Association sponsored their Shop with a Cop program, where seven area children got to shop for holiday gifts for everyone in their household, including themselves, along with local law enforcement. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says each kid was given $200 to spend on gifts. Additionally, he notes, when they took the kids to the Walmart in Boone to shop, Walmart also donated $1,000 toward the program and provided each child with a backpack full of school supplies. Jefferson Kiwanis Club members also helped wrap presents when the kids returned from shopping.
Williams expresses his thoughts about how this year went.
“Just seeing the kids happy and buying the stuff that they want or that they think they need. It’s just fun and watching them wrap the presents, you get to see all different kinds of methods for wrapping presents. So it’s fun. This was probably one of our better years. The kids were really good, listened, we weren’t chasing or trying to find kids hiding in clothes racks or none of that this year. So it was a good year.”
Williams encourages anyone who would like to make a donation can do so at the Greene County Law Enforcement Center Administrative Building, with checks made payable to the Greene County Peace Officers Association.
