For residents that may not have a lot, food pantries can be a lifesaver with the things that they provide. But a lot of the time demand can be higher than the supply of what they have, and the food pantry ends up needing more things to help those that need it.
New Opportunities of Guthrie County Family Development Center Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says that right now there’s one item in particular that the Guthrie Center Food Pantry needs.
“Right now, we’re kind of in need of eggs, if anybody has any farm fresh eggs they would be willing to donate. Once in a while, I cannot get them from the food bank, and this was one of those times. So we’re getting short on eggs. So if anybody can donate farm fresh eggs, we would definitely take those.”
Huggins mentions that paper items and toiletries are something else they’re in need of. She adds that when winter starts approaching, more people donate food than anything else, so they always find themselves short on non-food items. Meat and other perishable items are also needed, though Huggins tells Raccoon Valley Radio they exercise caution with milk, because they don’t want it to go bad before it can be given to someone who needs it.
