Playing on consecutive nights for the first time this season, the Greene County High School basketball teams were on home Tuesday with South Hamilton in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams lost both ends of a Monday non-conference twin bill in Panora on Monday vs. Panorama, and Tuesday the Rams won the boys’ contest to earn a split. Both games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Coach Chris Nelson and the boys’ team had 6′ 6″ senior Jesse Miller back after he missed the Panorama game due to illness. Clearly not at full strength, he scored just one point, but the Rams had the three-point game working, going eight of 21 as a team during the 52-45 victory. Junior Brynly Ruzicka had five three-pointers and a game high 18 points to lead the way. Junior Gabe Ebersole and senior Richard Daugherty each scored 13 points and both sank a pair of three’s. The Rams had a 16 point lead in the second half, then went cold and SH got within four late in the game, but Greene County overcame 25 turnovers and six of 18 foul shots. SH had four players score between seven and 11 points. Both teams are 1-1 in the HOIAC while the Rams are 2-2 and the Hawks fell to 2-1.

It was all Hawks in the girls’ game 76-17 as the Rams fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league play. SH is 4-0 and 2-0. Hallee Feaker had 19 points to lead four players with at least 14 points. Senior Emma Hoyle had the first 14 points the Rams scored. Esther Van Horn hit a three at the buzzer to end the third stanza and the Rams didn’t score in the last eight minutes.

Greene County plays tomorrow night at home vs. PCM (Monroe) in HOIAC girl/boy basketball. Originally scheduled for Dec. 9, the games were moved up one night due to the lack of game officials on Friday, according to the Greene County Activities Department. Thursday’s games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
