Additional information has been released regarding a single vehicle crash in Jefferson this past weekend that left one teen seriously hurt.
The Jefferson Police Department is currently investigating the incident that happened early Saturday morning where an 18-year-old driver was heading south on Grimmell Road, lost control of a 2007 Chevrolet K-3500 truck and struck the northeast portion of a bridge. Police Chief Mark Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio officers responded at 5:46am on Saturday and during the investigation, a witness reported hearing a loud crash sound coming from the bridge around 4:30am.
When officers found the vehicle, the driver had suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance and was eventually taken by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital. Clouse says they believe alcohol played a role in the crash and this incident is suspected to be related to an underage party that took place the night before in Churdan.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 12:48pm on Saturday at 1101 Sand Street in Churdan. The sheriff’s office reports evidence was seized from the residence including alcoholic beverage containers, stolen street signs, fake identification cards and tobacco products. Sheriff Jack Williams said on Monday at the Greene County Supervisors meeting that charges are pending completion of their investigation, including a social host ordinance violation.
Clouse adds charges are also pending against the teen driver. Both the Jefferson Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office are assisting each other in their respective cases.
Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
