Dallas Center – Grimes girls basketball played in their season opener on Friday night when they took on the Ballard Bombers in Grimes. DCG was unable to find enough runs throughout the evening, as Ballard was able to come in and take an important early season victory by the score of 56-48.
It was a tough back and forth first quarter, as DCG only trailed by one point, but Ballard was able to use a nice second quarter to take a 27-20 lead at halftime. The third quarter turned out to be a major difference, as Ballard was able to outscore DCG 17-9 in the frame and not look back in the win.
Finley Fitzgerald was able to lead DCG with 16 points, while Emma Miner chipped in with 11 points, and Vanessa Bickford with 10 points. Alliyah Thompson was able to lead Ballard with 21 points.
DCG came into the game at the number 3 team in the IGHSAU 4A poll, while Ballard was the number 6 team.
DCG will be looking for their first win next Tuesday night when they take on North Polk in Grimes, as they will face another Raccoon River Conference foe.
