Today is the first day for official boys’ high school basketball practice in Iowa for Greene County and others around the state. Head coach Chris Nelson returns two starters and up to eight letter winners from the 9-13 team of a season ago that finished fourth in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference at 8-6.
The starters are seniors Richard Daugherty and Jesse Miller, both of whom are well established not only at Greene County, but in the conference. Daugherty has twice been named to the HOIAC second all-conference team and Miller was an honorable mention selection after last season. Daugherty averaged 15.9 points a game last season to lead the Rams in scoring and is an adept three-point shooter. Miller, the only real height on the team at 6′ 6,” averaged 11.8 points and led the Rams in rebounds at almost seven per contest.
Greene County opens the season on Nov. 28 in Jefferson vs. non-conference opponent Ogden.
