The unofficial election results are in for Greene County.

There was one local contested race for Greene County Supervisor District 3 and voters have chosen Republican Dan Benitz as he has defeated Democrat challenger Mike Holden with 62-percent of the vote . Iowa House District 47 was also contested as Republican Carter Nordman defeated Democrat Gary Overla in Greene County with 67-percent of the vote. The unofficial results for the rest of House District 47, including Guthrie County and a western portion of Dallas County, are not yet known at this time.

Another interest for Greene County was a special ballot measure for whether or not Greene County should build a new jail not to exceed $12,685,000. The initiative failed with 57.45-percent of the vote and it needed at least 60-percent to pass.

All other local races were uncontested and had incumbents seeking re-election. Those individuals that were re-elected included County Supervisor District 1 Dawn Rudolph, County Recorder Deb McDonald, and County Attorney Thomas Laehn.

The notable federal and statewide races, Greene County voted for Republican incumbent Chuck Grassley for US Senate, Republican Zach Nunn for Iowa’s Third Congressional District seat, and Republican incumbent Kim Reynolds for governor. Grassley tells Raccoon Valley Radio his original goal was to serve two terms in the US Senate because several other Iowa senators in the past had failed to get re-elected.

“It was just almost impossible for Iowa to have a big voice in the United States Senate, And I thought, ‘Boy after the history of the last quarter century, if I could just be re-elected once we might help Iowa get a bigger stature.’ And I accomplished that in 1986, but I didn’t make any decision at that particular time that I would only serve two terms. So we’re where we’re at right now.”

All election results are unofficial until the Greene County Board of Supervisor canvass the votes next Tuesday. Click the link below to see the full unofficial results.
