Building off the success of last year’s inaugural fundraiser, the Greene County High School Jazz Band is looking forward to their event later this week.
The 2nd Annual Java and Jazz will take place starting at 7pm this Saturday in the high school auditorium. Band Director Wes Anderson says people can enjoy music in the commons with the high school jazz band while drinking coffee before heading into the auditorium to hear the main act of the Iowa State University Jazz Ensemble perform.
Anderson points out their jazz band will also get an opportunity to work with Mike Giles, the director of the ISU Jazz Ensemble.
“It’ll be really neat, actually I think, because the kids will have just been cliniced by Dr. Giles the day before. We’ll be able to have the opportunity to incorporate the things that he teaches them in that concert at 7pm out in the commons while people drink coffee.”
Anderson says the event is a free-will donation with all proceeds going back to the local jazz band.
