The Perry Elks are encouraging deer hunters to donate some of their spoils to a worthy cause.
The Veterans Leather Program uses deer hides to make professionally-crafted leather gloves so that veterans who are in wheelchairs can use them and turn the hides into leather for therapy programs for recovering veterans. These therapeutic kits and gloves are given to veterans at no cost.
About 4,183 deer hides were donated from several Elks Lodges across Iowa last year, which was a slight increase from the previous year. Contact the Perry Elks Lodge at 515-465-3791 for more information.
