Former President Donald Trump has been subpoenaed to testify before the US House select committee that’s been investigating the January 6, 2021 riots on Capitol Hill.
Raccoon Valley Radio caught up with US Senator Chuck Grassley at a recent visit at Sumpter Pharmacy in Adel and he said he believes in oversight and that Trump being subpoenaed is part of their process.
“Now I think whether he (Trump) would testify or not is just let the process work out. I’m going to wait until they issue their report, sometime between now and Christmas they’re going to issue a report, and see what that report says.”
Grassley went back to what abilities Congress has in situations like the January 6th riots.
“A person like me that says, ‘Our constitutional responsibilities is not only to pass laws and appropriate money, but it’s also our responsibility to see the executive branch does what it’s supposed to do.’ I’m in no position to criticize any other committee that does oversight work.”
The House select committee is scheduled to have its final hearing later this month.
