The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday in regular session.

The Board approve abating mobile home and real estate property taxes, including two parcels in the city of Linden for $297; four internal operating funding transfers as presented, and awarding a $30,937 janitorial services contract to Nationwide Office Care Services for the auditor’s office, support offices and planning and zoning/assessor offices. Nationwide was not the low bidder, but the Board approved the second lowest with Nationwide because they are currently provide janitorial services at the human services building and the county had to abruptly end a previous contract with the lowest bidder, Reliable Maintenance. They also set a public hearing for November 8th at 9:30am for a 2023 fiscal year budget amendment.

The Board also held a public hearing on the first reading to amend the Planned Unit Development zoning ordinance. During the hearing, it was mentioned that there needed to be lots of clarifying language added to the ordinance, along with possibly eliminating parts of the ordinance that didn’t fit within today’s standards for Dallas County. The Board chose to continue the public hearing on November 18th at 9:30am and may consider approving the first reading of the amended ordinance at that time.

The Board discussed its property at 118 and 120 North Nile Kinnick. The previous owner had five apartments on the second floor that are now abandoned. The Board wanted to know the structural integrity of the buildings before a finalized decision is made. One option that was discussed was to demolish the buildings and make it a parking lot while the county goes forward with building an administrative building next year.
