A virus for birds has returned to Iowa and in a county in the Raccoon Valley Radio area.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the U.S. Department of Agriculture found one case of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a non-commercial backyard flock in Dallas County. This is the first case of HPAI in Dallas County.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig said in a press release that it wasn’t unexpected that there could be cases of the avian flu in Iowa, given the fall migration of birds at this time. Commercial and backyard flock owners are asked to prevent the avian flu by preventing contact between their birds and wild birds. Report any suspected cases of HPAI to IDALS. Iowa’s last case of the avian flu was May 2nd.
