Friday night the AC/GC Chargers played host to the reigning 2021 State Champion Van Meter Bulldogs. The Chargers played well, but unfortunately the Bulldogs played a better game. Van Meter kicked to start the game, but their defense made quick work of the AC/GC offense, and continued to do so for most of the game.
Van Meter scored on all but one play, and left AC/GC trying to get anywhere close to the endzone. The closest the Chargers got to scoring was at the end of the first half. They started on their own 25 yard line, and were able to march down to within inches of the goal line.
The best offensive play was a reception by Jedd Weinkoetz. The Chargers were 4th and long, with the first down marker being at the 7. Weinkoetz caught the ball at the 3 and was able to pull himself out of bounds to stop the clock.
Defensively, the best plays came from the special teams on point after attempts. The Chargers were able to get back behind the line on a couple PAT’s and block the kicks, keeping the game down to a 54-0 loss.
