A Des Moines man was recently sentenced to jail time and probation for a Greene County incident.
According to court documents, 42-year-old Ian Patterson pled guilty to a Class D Felony for eluding-injury, OWI, drugs or participating in a felony and an aggravated misdemeanor for his second offense for possession of a controlled substance. He had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years for the felony charge and was sentenced to 30 days in the Greene County Jail and two years of probation for the misdemeanor.
The charges stemmed from an incident on August 27th. An Iowa State Trooper was following Patterson’s vehicle around 11am because the trooper noticed Patterson wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The Trooper saw that Patterson turned from Highway 144 onto 280th Street when the vehicle accelerated. A chase ensued and ended in a cornfield in Boone County. Patterson was eventually found in a wooded area after the State Patrol used the K-9 Unit and aircraft. A consent search of Patterson’s vehicle also found marijuana.
Patterson was also ordered to pay over $1,300 in court cost, fines, surcharges and court-appointed attorney fees. As per the plea agreement, the other charges, including an aggravated misdemeanor for driving while barred was dismissed.
