Pool consultant that led a community meeting this past summer

An endeavor that started a few months ago in Jefferson has reached a point where a board is asking for the public to get involved.

The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board has been collecting data and public input about the idea of building an indoor pool that would be connected to the Greene County Community Center. JPRD Director Denny Hammen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Board has delivered on presented information from a feasibility study that was conducted with OPN Architects. There were three scenarios that were presented back in July, along with cost estimates to build each area and the maintenance and operational costs.

Then at the most recent Board meeting on September 19th, Hammen explains the result of the Board’s decision concerning the indoor pool.

“We didn’t want to lead the group to build the pool, but we did want to support it. Of course (we) have the funding from the Autenreith donation that has sparked the interest in building this indoor pool. The Board is willing to hang onto that money and save for the moment, I guess, towards this indoor pool if it should develop, outside of Board confines.”

Hammen says the Board would support an active public group take on the project with the next step most likely being a fundraising campaign. However, Hammen notes that if the project doesn’t continue to develop, then they will use the close to $800,000 Autenreith donation for other projects.
