The Dallas County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a demonstration day in November at the Des Moines Area Community College Dallas County Farm at a date to be announced later.
The 580-acre farm is owned by the county, leased to DMACC, and has been in operation for 22 years. Approximately 75 students are taught at the farm every year. On the field day in November Soil Max, headquartered in Ames, will demonstrate a system that allows farmers to do their own field tiling, at a reduced cost over private installation. Soil Max will provide the tile, tile plows, and carts needed for the demonstration. They will be tiling 20-30 acres on a wetter part of the north 40 acres. The demonstration will take place again next year. Soil Max is conducting demonstrations of do-it-yourself tiling across the U.S.
