Greene County had its cross-country teams in Des Moines on Thursday at the Saydel Invitational. It was the second meet in three days for the Rams, who will finish the regular season on Monday, Oct. 10 at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet east of State Center at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

Thursday saw the Greene County boys finished second among eight teams while the girls were last among eight squads. Highly rated Des Moines Christian easily won the team title for boys with just 17 points to 93 for the Rams. Grandview Christian (Des Moines) had 108 with Perry 113, Ankeny Christian Academy 114, Central Decatur (Leon) 146, Van Meter 147, and Saydel 178.

Noah Hinote has been the season long leader for the Greene County boys and at Saydel he covered the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 18:14, good for 12th place. Next was Ethan Frederick 14th in 18:43, Kolby Angell, 18th in 19:01, Gavyn Winters 20th in 19:07, and Carter Hinote, 29th  in 20:09.

VM won the girls’ team title with 29 points, followed by DMC 43, GVC 80, Perry 143, West Central Valley 159, Saydel 161, ACA 174, and Greene County 177.

Olivia Shannon has led Greene County’s girls throughout this season and on Thursday she was 22nd in 23:42, followed by Autumn Stevens, 29th in 24:12, Ava Minnehan 37th in 26:00, Ava Jablonski 43rd in 27:14, and Leah McCormick, 46th in 29:56.
