Both high school volleyball teams from Greene County played conference matches last night on their respective home courts. Greene County hosted Perry in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play in Jefferson and won in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-8, 25-16. Paton-Churdan lost to Woodbine in Churdan in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference in three sets. Scores were 22-25, 12-25, 17-25.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams improved to 15-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference while the Jayettes fell to 6-19, 2-3. The Rams led set one from start to finish, but the lead was just 15-14 before a 10-2 run by the home team closed out the set. Greene County had four service errors in the set. There was a 1-1 tie in set two, but otherwise the Rams led the entire set and they committed no service errors. Greene County was down 3-5 in set three, then quickly rallied for the lead, the set win, and the match.
Coach Makayla Sparr’s Rockets are 0-13 on the season and 0-6 in the league. Paige Teeples had five assists and four kills. Becca Anderson led in digs with 10, while Emma Stream had seven assists and two blocks.
The Rams go to Nevada and P-C travels to Coon Rapids to face Coon Rapids-Bayard tomorrow.
