As Preparedness Month ends, one local Emergency Management Agency encourages everyone to get the Alert Iowa messaging system to stay connected.
Emergency Management Coordinator for Adair and Guthrie Counties Bob Kempf says that the Alert Iowa messages is the state’s official notification system that provides local control of how and when to disseminate emergency and public safety messages. Kempf explains that getting the Alert Iowa System on your smart device is a focal point with Preparedness Month ending.
“So signing up for something as simple as Alert Iowa is a very first step in putting that plan together. Being able to find out what’s coming your direction or what could affect you is step number one. Because otherwise you don’t know what to build your communication plan or your kit around.”
Kempf says that the system provides geo targeted text or messages and email alerts of when certain weather, traffic and emergency events occur.
