Greene County had its girls and boys cross-country teams at the Leon Fox Invitational hosted by Perry on Thursday. The event was held at the Perry Golf & Country Club and it’s named after the former Perry teacher/coach. Coach Jeff Lamoureux watched his boys’ team finish in fifth place among 10 teams. The Greene County girls were ninth among 10 squads with the minimum five runners competing.

“I like the way we continue to compete against traditional powerful cross-country programs each and every meet,” said the coach.

Ballard (Huxley) won the girls’ team title by edging ADM by one point, 36-37. The Rams had 246 points and were led by senior Olivia Shannon, 31st in 23:05 of the five kilometers (3.1 miles). Senior Autumn Stevens was 48th in 23:43, followed by freshman Ava Minnehan, 50th in 25:21, sophomore Ava Jablonski, 57th in 27:22, and freshman Leah McCormick, 60th in 30:22.

On the boys’ side it was Winterset winning the team title with 30 points. Des Moines Christian also had 30, but the Huskies had a higher placing number six runner, which broke the tie. The Rams had 159 points. Sophomore Noah Hinote led the way for Greene County in 18:58, good for 22nd place. Sophomore Gavyn Winters was 26th in 19:10, followed by senior Ethan Frederick, 31st, in 19:18, junior Kolby Angell, 36th in 19:27, and freshman Carter Hinote, 44th in 20:03.

Up next for the Rams is the South Central Calhoun Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Lake City golf course.
