The marching band during this past month's homecoming parade
The Greene County High School marching band is making a return to an area contest on Saturday.
Director Wes Anderson tells Raccoon Valley Radio they are participating in the 65th Annual Carroll Parade Band Day, which he says has been two years since the last time they competed in the parade contest.
“My first year of teaching we actually won Carroll Band Days and I think we were still (Class) 3A at the time. It was just a great badge of achievement for the kids. For my students last year, I wanted to get them to create their own goals for us as a band program. One goal that they came up with was to win something. If it’s get first place or to just beat another school.”
Anderson points out he also gave last year’s students the opportunity to decide whether to concentrate more on parade marching or field marching, where bands perform on football fields and make several formations to music.
“They came back with wanted to pursue parade marching (and) what we would do to just look great of Bell Tower Festival, look great at the homecoming parade, look great at Carroll Band Days. Chase the competitive classic at Carroll Band Days and try to win whichever division that we’re in whether its (Class) 3A or 2A and try to compete there.”
The Carroll Parade Band Day takes place on Saturday with several other high school and middle school marching bands.
