Last Friday the West Central Valley football team traveled to Guthrie Center and played an impressive game against the AC/GC Chargers. In the teams two previous meetings, the Chargers outscored the Wildcats 106-0, but this time was different.

The West Central Valley team started off hot, scoring the first points of the game with a touchdown and PAT in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter the Wildcats outscored the Chargers 7-6, taking a 14-6 lead at halftime. In the third, the Chargers made a comeback, and the Wildcats led 26-20 going into the 4th. AC/GC was able to turn the tables in the last quarter though, scoring a touchdown and getting a two point conversion to take their first lead of the game, and beat the Wildcats 28-26.

Taking a look at statistics for the game, both teams did well, and looked very similar on paper, a reflection of the scoreboard. AC/GC didn’t complete either pass attempt, so they didn’t have a stats leader for passing yards or receiving yards, but senior Seth Reno led the team in rushing yards, with 109 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Fellow senior Ben Marsh led the Chargers in total tackles, with 9.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

For West Central Valley, junior Nate Gerling led the team in passing yards, completing 8 of 14 passes for 133 passing yards and one passing touchdown. Gerling was also able to get 4 rushing yards and a touchdown on 3 carries. Senior Braiden Beane led the Wildcats in rushing yards though, with 109 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. His brother Blaise Beane led West Central Valley in receiving yards, getting all 51 yards and a touchdown on 1 reception. Fellow senior Gage Davis led the Wildcats in total tackles, racking up 8.5, 5 of which were solo takedowns.
