Greene County went 3-2 in matches and 6-5 in sets on Saturday in Eldora at the South Hardin volleyball tournament to finish in second place behind Class 1A number four rated Gladbrook-Reinbeck. The finish was the highest for a Greene County team in several years in this event.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team went 2-1 in Pool play, beating Oelwein 21-17, 21-19, losing to Gladbrook-Reinbeck 16-21, 15-21, then winning 21-15, 21-16 vs. Grandview Christian (Des Moines).

Finishing second in the pool advanced Greene County to the semifinals where they top Class 2A number 12 South Hardin in three sets by scores of 21-16, 14-21, 15-9, before losing the title match to Gladbrook-Reinbeck 20-22, 10-21.

Senior Bella Schroeder had 29 kills on the day with 27 kills for junior Kaylee Stalder. Senior Natalie Heupel added 11 kills and sophomore Emma Ewalt had eight.

Senior Katrina Heupel led the team in digs with 32 while both Natalie Heupel and junior Graci Cooklin had 17.

For the season, the Rams are 9-4 in matches and 22-10 in sets and next up is a home match at the high school gym in Jefferson vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) on Thursday, Sept. 15.
