After the retirement of Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard last month, the Dallas County Board of Supervisors officially appointed a new sheriff.

The Board appointed Chief Deputy Adam Infante to the position of sheriff where he will serve out the remainder of the term that expires on January 1st, 2025. Supervisor Mark Hanson says he felt the best decision was Infante to be appointed.

“I’ve worked with Adam for 17 years in this role on the Board of Supervisors and he is very steady, he is very competent. Sheriff Leonard did a great job as our Sheriff and he chose Adam as his Chief Deputy. I did talk to Sheriff Leonard about Adam’s background, his work within the department, the respect that he has within the department and it just seemed like the natural choice, for me anyway, to appoint someone with that long history and the knowledge that he has done a great job and that he does have the highest recommendation from Sheriff Leonard.”

Sheriff Infante has been with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for 22 years now and says it’s a great feeling to be in the position of sheriff in Dallas County and Infante says he is thankful for the support he’s had along the way that has helped him get to where he is.

“It feels kind of unbelievable really, if you figure out 22 years ago I was just a 23-year-old kid out of college driving a patrol car at midnight to now being the sheriff in charge of one of the largest sheriff office’s in the State of Iowa, the fastest growing by all accounts. I guess I’m not used to it yet.”

Infante says the team work shown throughout the county with other departments along with all of the work that has been done moving the Sheriff’s Office forward will continue with him at the helm.
