It’s middle school and high school girls and boys cross-country in Jefferson this Saturday morning for the Greene County Ram Coed Invitational. It’s at Jefferson Community Golf Course on the south edge of town with races starting at 9 a.m.
Head Coach Jeff Lamoureux talked about the format. “We’re actually starting with the high school boys race at 9 a.m. Then it’s high school girls, followed by the two middle school races. That’s a little different than most meets, but since high school races are five kilometers (3.1 miles) and middle school races are two miles, we thought we’d put the longer races first.”
Saturday is also the day of the Iowa State at Iowa college football game, but kickoff in Iowa City is at 3 p.m. The cross-country meet is likely to be finished around 11 a.m. Admission to the cross-country meet is free and due to limited parking at the golf course, fans are encouraged to park at the middle school and walk on the wide sidewalk to the course. Golf cars will transport those from the middle school and back with mobility issues.
