Guthrie Co. Hosp. courtesy vanNational Volunteer Week wraps up tomorrow, but before we move away from this designated time to give thanks to our area volunteers, let’s look into how volunteerism impacts one specific aspect of our Guthrie County community.

122… that is the number of volunteers that give time to support the efforts of the Guthrie County Hospital, and Outreach Director Becky Secoy says volunteers’ help comes in variety of different facets.

“We have volunteers from Foundation courtesy van drivers to people who deliver our meals on wheels.  Our Foundation, our Auxiliary, our Board and Royal Neighbors is a local community group that volunteers… So, we have numerous ways that people help and really invest in the future of our organization.”

While she wishes she could do more, Secoy says thanks to those volunteers during this week of national recognition.

“We can’t thank them enough.  They dedicate countless hours of volunteer service to our organization, and this is just one small week that we can really pay tribute to them and them only for everything they do for us throughout the year.”

GCH has about 130 staff members across all of its different entities, so there are almost as many volunteers as there are paid staff helping the hospital’s cause.  Secoy says she hopes those volunteers recognize this week that their work is “truly invaluable” to the hospital and to the community.
