The 2014 “Under the Sea” Greene County High School Prom Is Today
Junior Class Advisor Teresa Green says every year there is a grand march, an all-school meal, a dance and after prom activities.
She invites the public to view all the decorations for this year’s prom at the Jefferson Elk’s Lodge, the Greene County Middle School gym and at the United Methodist Church from 3:30-4:30pm this afternoon.
Students will then have their pictures taken followed by a meal prepared by the Ram Restaurant at the United Methodist Church. The community is then invited to the grand march from 7:30-8:15pm from the middle school to the Elk’s Lodge and in case of bad weather, Green points out that the march will be at the Greene County Community Center.
The dance will be at the Elk’s Lodge from 8:30-11:30pm.
After prom will be at the middle school gym starting at 12:30am.
Green appreciates all the support from the community including those who donated money and prizes to again provide for a fun and safe prom for students to enjoy.
The Barbie Fashion Show Is Today In Jefferson
The public is invited to a rescheduled Barbie Fashion Show by the Jefferson Public Library.
Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says girls of all ages are welcomed to show off their fashion on the runway and they will be treated to a special visit by the famous doll herself. She comments that it’s in honor of Barbie’s birthday which was last month and they had to reschedule it but they felt like they wanted to give area girls an opportunity to enjoy this special event.
Plus, there will be beauty stations and fashion accessories.
Clark reminds everyone that any child under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult.
The free event will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson today from 10-11:30am.
The Churdan Library Is Hosting A Special Event Tomorrow
National Library Week begins on Sunday and the Churdan Public Library will be hosting a free public event tomorrow.
Youth Services Director Marilyn Tilley says they will be taking everyone back to the Civil War era.
The evening starts at 5pm with hands-in activities in the community room. Then you can learn more as you travel along the Underground Railroad. Tilley states that after you’ve exited the Underground Railroad, each participant will receive a name of a person from the North or South and at 6pm, everyone will gather in the dining hall for a freewill donation meal before going to war.
Following the meal, each person will find out if they survived the war or not.
It is sponsored by the citizens of Churdan and from funds received through Communities 4 Children and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children neighborhood/Community Network Mini Grants.
Greene County Medical Center Reroutes Traffic For ER Department
A reminder to all Greene County and surrounding residents that the entrance to the existing emergency department at Greene County Medical Center has been temporarily moved.
Community Relations Director Carla Offenburger says due to construction of the 51,000-square foot expansion that started this week on the southeast part of the current facility, the ER entrance has been blocked. People needing ER services will now have to enter on the west side of the medical center from West Lincolnway.
Offenburger notes that there will be signs along the roads to help guide people to the correct temporary entrance.
Once construction is completed, the new ER entrance will be just off Grimmell Road on the northeast corner of the campus.
