Most of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening saw heavy rainfall Sunday and Monday but the precipitation wasn’t enough to affect drought conditions.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Kristy Carter says that Perry and Guthrie Center have seen a total 1.6 inches of rain in the past two days along with Jefferson receiving .8 inches. Carter says this rain has been significant but not enough to change drought conditions in the area.
“Rain on Sunday was certainly a little bit more beneficial than the rain we’ve had on Monday. And that certainly could help with some of the drought conditions in the west, central to central Iowa areas. But we do take a lot more than just the amount of rainfall into account and also kind of matters of the soil moisture and a few other parameters. So it’s not just on the amount of precipitation alone.”
Carter explains that a good portion of central Iowa is abnormally dry and unfortunately that the rest of the work week looks dry but there is a chance for rain into the weekend.
