A high speed weekend pursuit ends with an arrest and charges from Greene County.
According to court documents, an Iowa State Patrol Trooper noticed the driver of a Jeep Cherokee wasn’t wearing a seatbelt on Iowa Highway 144 and 280th Street around 11am Saturday. The affidavit said the trooper noticed the vehicle turned onto 280th Street and appeared to be accelerating. The trooper tried to catch up and activated his emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle refused to pull over.
A chase ensued where speeds reached 90 miles per hour on mostly gravel roads in Greene County. The chase then went into Boone County, where the Jeep went into a private driveway at 305th Street. The Jeep then entered a cornfield, knocking over standing corn. The trooper exited the pursuit from the cornfield and set up a perimeter. State Patrol then used an aircraft to find the vehicle parked at 2226 Deer Avenue in Boone County.
The aircraft also identified a female walking down Deer Avenue and law enforcement detained her. She identified the driver of the Jeep as 42-year-old Ian Patterson of Des Moines. A State Patrol K-9 Unit then arrived and once it was announced that the K-9 was going to be deployed, Patterson came out of a wooded area and gave himself up without further incident. A consent to search the Jeep was given and troopers found a baggie of marijuana.
Patterson was arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for eluding-injury, OWI, drugs or participation in a felony, two aggravated misdemeanors for driving while barred and third offense for possession of marijuana, as well as two traffic violations for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to use a seat belt. Patterson was booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
