Greene County volleyball hosted Boone and Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) in a high school volleyball triangular last night inside the air-conditioned Greene County High School gym in Jefferson. The Rams play another triangular tonight in Panora at Panorama HS vs. the Panthers and also South Central Calhoun (Lake City).
Last night, Boone and the Rams played first, followed by the Toreadors and Kuemper Catholic, with the Knights and Rams concluding the evening.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams went 0-2 in matches and 2-4 in sets on the night. Scores vs. Boone were 19-25, 25-10, 9-15, and 22-25, 25-18, 6-15 vs. Kuemper Catholic.
The losses were the first of the year for the Rams and it was also the home debut for Coach Heisterkamp’s team, who fell to 3-2 on the season. Boone lost to Kuemper Catholic and they are 1-5 and the Knights left at 2-0 on the night and 4-4 overall
The Rams trailed 0-10 vs. the Toreadors in set one, then led the Toreadors 8-0 to start set two. Set three saw Greene County trail 6-8 before Boone went on a 5-0 run the Rams weren’t able to recover from.
The match with Kuemper saw the Rams trail by as many as six points before taking a 14-13 lead in set one. The Knights went ahead by three points late and took the set. The second set again saw the Rams trail early, but this time they took the team for good after the teams were tied 12-12. Set three was tied 4-4 before Kuemper dominated by scoring 11 of the final 13 points.
