The week zero game last week between the Panorama Panthers and Perry Bluejays is officially in the books and the game was headlined by this year’s returning starters.

The Panthers and Bluejays had a week zero game on the schedule which saw the Class 1A Panthers taking on the Class 4A Bluejays at Dewey Field in Perry with the outcome of the game swinging in favor of the Panthers by a final score of 39-21.

This year the Panthers have multiple returners to the field at various skill positions including running back and quarterback. During last Friday’s game the three position groups that shined on offense include running back, quarterback and wide receiver.

In the quarterback spot Cayden Van Meer led the way going 17/29 for 219 yards and a touchdown finishing with a rating of 122. Wide receiver Braedon Draper was Van Meer’s favorite target against the Bluejays last week as he had 15 receptions for 212 yards and a touchdown.

In the running back spot Ryan Cogil added another monster game with 236 yards and three touchdowns on the ground with runs of 65 and 69 yards for scores. This was Cogil’s third 200+ rushing yard game in the last two seasons where last year he rushed for 203 yards against the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks and 245 yards against the Interstate 35 Roadrunners last season.

On the defensive side Klayton Bremer continued to be a leader on defense as he had 6.5 tackles along with two interceptions, one which he returned for a touchdown. Also, Keyton Van Gundy continued to perform on defense as well contributing a team leading 9.5 tackles.

The Panthers look primed and ready to go for another season of high school football as they will be headed to Colfax on Friday to take on the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks for week one action as that game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. Friday.
