Greene County traveled to Class 3A number 8 Nevada for a football scrimmage on Friday ahead of Friday evening’s rain in Story County. The varsity teams played two-20 quarters with a continuous clock. Both squads had four offensive possessions and showed the ability to move the ball. Each defense also had stops, so both sides had their moments.
Teams did kickoff and punt, however no rushing was allowed on kicks and punts during the scrimmage. Ram highlights on offense included kicker Nathan Behne booting a 50 yard field goal and quarterback Gabe Ebersole unofficially throwing for 180 yards to six different receivers. The Rams scored a touchdown on a short pass to Patrick Daugherty that he turned into a 25 yard catch and run on third and long. A defensive highlight for the Rams was a tackle for loss late in the varsity portion of the night on fourth and two from the Greene County 27 yard line by returning All-State defensive lineman Michael Rumley.
The Rams open the regular season on Saturday, Aug. 27 vs. ACGC at Ogden High School at 7 p.m. The game was moved to a neutral site due to sod issues at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The Aug. 27 contest will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
