The Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School has 50 student athletes out for football this year and that includes one of the biggest freshman classes under Head Coach Cody Matthewson.
Coach Matthewson says the particpation since he took over as the AC/GC football head coach has grown every year. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the high numbers from the freshman class is a good sign for the program.
“We’re sitting really, really good right now. I can think back four years ago coming in in the 2018 season, looking at the roster, they had 28 kids out for football. So we’ve been consistently in that 45 to 50 range. 42, our lowest number one year. But numbers help us with depth and helps with all that. And I think kids want to be a part of a program.”
He adds the senior class has 12 players along with the junior class having 10 and sophomore class with 13 for the 2022 season
