A popular literacy program is underway in Greene County.

The Greene County Reads program is the local version of the All Iowa Reads, with this year’s selected book, “The Butterfly Effect” by Rachel Mans McKenny. The story is based on the fictional character Greta Oto who is an entomologist, a person who studies insects. While doing research across the globe, she rushes back to her home in Iowa because her twin brother is having health issues. However, she also resents her family and why she left in the first place. 

The book is an unconventional tale of self-discovery, navigating relationships and how sometimes it takes stepping outside of our comfort zone to find what we need the most.

 The Greene County Reads program is open to the public, with the culmination of a book discussion that will be held on September 9th at three of the county libraries. Those include the Churdan Library at 9am, the Rippey Library at 12:30pm and the Scranton Library at 3:30pm. The author will be in person for each book discussion, which will be moderated by county resident and retired high school English teacher Jan Scharingson.
