A popular event returns this Thursday to downtown Jefferson.

Cruisin’ to the Square brings several cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors to the downtown square, which takes place from 4:30-7pm. Co-organizer Chuck Wenthold says they will block off the streets around the square at 1pm that day in preparation for the massive amounts of vehicles.

Wenthold notes not only can people view all of the classic and modern vehicles, they can also enjoy several food options, including the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association grilling hotdogs, hamburgers and ribeye sandwiches on the eastside of the Greene County Courthouse, along with a food truck near the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, and the Jefferson Does with pie, ice cream and root beer floats on the southeast corner of the courthouse.

The other aspects associated with Cruisin’ to the Square is a poker walk involving eight retailers on the square and people can get a chance to win one of eight $25 Chamber Check prizes, and there is a barbecue cook-off in front of the Murphy Farm Meats location northwest of the square.

Wenthold talks about why he continues to help coordinate this annual event.

“The biggest thing is just bringing people to the community so they can see what we have here in Jefferson. And hopefully they come back each year. I think that’s what has kind of kept this event going all these years is it’s maybe a little bit more laid back than some of the other car shows that are out there. But it’s a nice area to have the show, we have lots of things for people to do.”

Awards will be given shortly after the event and Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live in front of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower from 4-6pm? The rain date is the next day on Friday.
