Lyle was born on February 17, 1928 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Elmer and Golda (Walther) Hein. He grew up on a farm near Lidderdale and attended country school as a boy. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. Lyle began farming at the young age of 14 because his father became ill. He was married to Norma Wenck on May 1, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale by Pastor Hermann. The couple made their home on the Hein family farm until 1954 when they moved to Norma’s father’s farm where they raised their five children. Lyle was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale where he served on many boards over the years. Farming and raising livestock was Lyle’s passion. Lyle also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, Solitaire, word search puzzles, and he loved going to coffee at Wenck Feeds. He took two fishing trips with his friends to Canada, and he truly loved the many family trips he took in the summers to Minnesota with his family.
Lyle is survived by his children and their families: son Randy Hein of rural Carroll, daughter Renae Cook (Don) Broken Arrow, OK, son Ross Hein (Kim) Glidden, daughter Rhoda Mergen (Chris) of McKinney, TX, and daughter Rebecca Ware (Rob) of Ankeny; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Gloria Wenck of Lidderdale; a brother Elmer Hein Jr. (Donna) of Glidden; two sisters-in-law Frieda Wenck of Lidderdale and Arlette Hein of Colorado; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.
