A new organization has provided a tourist attraction outside of a business in Guthrie County.
Midwest Wings has painted two murals that depict the wings of a bird and butterfly which are eight feet tall outside of Midwest Blooms and Cut Loose Salon on State Street in Guthrie Center. Owner of Midwest Blooms and Midwest Wings Ash Nolte says that she partnered with a local artist Kelly Nielsen to bring a beautiful art attraction to the city. She describes why she chose wings for the design.
“ Wings have so many different meanings from growth to just letting go. Soaring. Taking a leap of faith. And what a better way to invest in the community and the people than to spread my wings here.”
Both murals have different designs that include a patriotic pair of wings with the colors red, white and blue and the other is a floral theme with pink and purple flowers. Nolte tells Raccoon Valley Radio it took Nielsen roughly two weeks to complete these murals.
“Her artwork is extraordinary. Every little detail. She’s amazing. We’re blessed to have her as a community and as a teacher. She’s also the art teacher at the school.”
Nolte notes they have already had a ton of people from different parts of Iowa come take pictures at the mural. She adds the paint for the murals did get expensive but plans on doing a few more murals on the outside of her business. For pictures of the murals visit pictures here
