Dallas Center – Grimes softball was taking on a difficult challenger on Wednesday afternoon in Fort Dodge against North Scott, and after trailing by three runs, were able to score nine unanswered runs in two innings to book their ticket to the state championship winning 9-3. Mustang softball moves to 35-6 on the season, as they were able to record their fifteenth straight win in the process.

After not putting up much offense in the first three innings and trailing, DCG woke up with a five run fourth inning that was punctuated by the nine hitter Olivia Huston hitting her 4th home run of the season, the three run blast giving the Mustangs their first lead of the day. In the next inning, a two run home run by Bella Mulder was hammered to help expand the lead and help DCG cruise into the state finals. Thirteen hits total were put up by DCG, with Mulder and Huston both record 3 RBIs each to pace the Mustangs.

Pitcher Aubrey Johansen was able to pitch six quality innings, giving up three runs no earned, four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. She also had a great day at the plate where she recorded four hits in four at bats.

DCG softball will be taking on top overall seed Winterset for the state championship tonight. The two teams meet earlier this year with the Huskies winning 2-1 in a very close contest. First pitch will be at 7:30. You can listen to the game on 943, 997, and AM 1310 KDLS. Pregame coverage will begin just a few minutes before the title pitch, as DCG will aim for their first state championship since 2015 and their 4th overall.
