We look at the pitching numbers of junior Emma Hoyle from Greene County’s recently completed softball season. You have to go back to Marissa Promes and the back-to-back 2014-15 teams that both placed third at Class 3A State Tournaments to find a pitcher with more strikeouts in a season than junior Emma Hoyle had in 2022.

Hoyle helped the Rams to a 13-13 season, the first since 2016 that did not have more losses than wins. The right-hander struck out 230 batters in 165 innings. Her earned run averaged was 2.42 with an opponents batting average of .171. Hoyle went 13-12 on the season with 100 walks and 29 batters hit with pitches. She threw over 2,800 pitches and averaged nearly 113 pitches per outing, so she was extremely durable and dependable. Hoyle earned first team All-Conference honors in the Heart of Iowa. Those teams were announced late last week.
