A Scranton farmer recently took on a position on a national stage.

Mike Holden was appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. This group is responsible for guiding the National Beef Checkoff Program. The 101-member board consists of domestic beef, dairy and veal producers, as well as importers of beef and beef products.

Holden works on a third-generation farm, where they grow corn and soybeans, along with raising cow/calf herds. They have their own replacement females, sell some heifers and a few bulls and market calves direct to the end consumer through Moo Meat.

Holden retired earlier this year from the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association after more than three decades. He has also served on the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association Board, was a member of the Iowa Beef Industry Council, where he also served as the representative on the US Meat Export Federation. Holden is a current member of the Greene County and Iowa Farm Bureau, as well as the Iowa Corn Growers and Iowa Soybean Associations.
