Dallas Center – Grimes Mustangs softball was looking to find a ticket to the state tournament on Tuesday night against Bishop Heelan, and the Mustangs were able to continue their torrid hitting as the Mustangs were able to grab the victory by the score of 10-1.
Mustang softball improves to 33-6 on the season while Bishop Heelan ends their year with a 30-12 mark.
The Mustangs didn’t mess around as they put up three in the first inning to take the early lead. Bishop Heelan countered with one in the top of the third inning, but DCG was able to get two more in the bottom half of the frame to make it 5-1. The Mustangs were able to add three more in the fourth inning and two in the fifth, maintaining a comfortable lead for the majority of the evening.
Two more home runs for hit by the Mustangs, bringing their season team total to 34.
DCG was able to continue their remarkable stretch of at least ten runs scored in six straight games, and at least five runs scored in nineteen straight games.
DCG will be taking on Little Hawkeye Conference foe Indianola in the first round of the 4A tournament next Monday at 5 pm at Iowa Central Field. DCG was able to beat Indianola three times this year in conference play, but the slate will be wiped clean in what should be a great 4A tournament next week.
